Charles Atlas’ Hail the New Puritan
On Friday, we revisit the question of how we perform persona using signification and symbolism as found through costume and fabric. What does our exterior say about our interior, if anything? Head to Howl! Happening for an afternoon costume-making workshop with Carlos Soto, Michael DiPietro and other costume geniuses in prep for the masquerade ball, Vertigo, at Mana Contemporary on Saturday, June 3. Materials will be provided (bring anything special that you want to incorporate). Then join for a special screening of Charles Atlas’ iconic film, Hail the New Puritan, a “docufantasy” starring choreographer Michael Clark and featuring costumes by Leigh Bowery. Stay afterwards for a costumed discussion and Q&A with Charles Atlas and Lucy Sexton. (Seriously, wear a costume to the discussion/!)
