A Participatory Evening of Fluxus Performances
Presented in association with Some Serious Business
What is a Happening? A game, an adventure, a number of activities engaged in by participants for the sake of playing. — Artist Alan Kaprow
Inspired by Alan Kaprow, Al Hansen, and the Fluxus spirit, Howl! Happening is pleased to present an evening with artist/writer Bibbe Hansen, daughter of Al Hansen, mother of multi-Grammy winning pop musician Beck, and visual artist Channing Hansen.
George Maciunas, one of the primary founders and organizers of Fluxus, once described the movement as, “a fusion of Spike Jones, gags, games, vaudeville, Cage and Duchamp.” Hansen leads our audience on a merry dance of surprises, chance operations, and humor in “happenings” that showcase Fluxus’ irreverence for “high art” and the use of the audience as the focus of work, centering around performances and “disorganized events” that blur the line between art and life.
