Photographers Lola Flash and Alice O’Malley are

Photographers Lola Flash and Alice O’Malley are both veterans of women’s clubs and AIDS activism in 1990s New York. Howl! Happening is pleased to present their individually curated slide shows, primarily featuring images from that indelible decade, projected on opposite walls of the gallery.

By 1990, photo slide shows had become a nearly instant, affordable way to celebrate queer beauty and militant eroticism within our clubhouses. Group empowerment and reflecting our unity were crucial during those heady years. We railed against censorship and queer phobia, while AIDS ravaged friends, family, and lovers, because we had no effective medicines to suppress it and a government that vilified us. OPENING THURSDAY JUNE 13, 5 To 8 PM . Photographers Lola Flash and Alice O’Malley are both veterans of women’s clubs and AIDS activism in 1990s New York. Howl! Happening at 6 East 1st St. (near Bowery) is pleased to present their individually curated slide shows, featuring images from that indelible decade, projected on opposite sides of the gallery.

Howl! Happening at 6 East 1st St. (near Bowery) is pleased to host Stuyvesant High School’s 2nd UNICEF Club fundraising event FRIDAY JUNE 7, 6 to 8pm. There will be a variety of performances from Stuyvesant students including poetry, music, theater, and modern dance! Admission is FREE for all. You are invited to join Howlers, students, parents, and faculty to experience the performances and learn more about UNICEF. All donations go directly to supporting children through UNICEF. We salute Stuyvesant High School’s youth participation and action in the arts for this worthy cause.

Stuyvesant High School UNICEF club will be holding a fundraising concert this Friday June 7th at Howl! Happening from 6-8pm. There will be a wide variety of performances from Stuyvesant students including poetry, music, theater, and modern dance! Admission is free. Donations are welcome and go directly to UNICEF USA. Come support the performers and bring friends!
