Every night was like goin’ for broke . . . like the end of the world. —Bob Dylan

Howl! Happening presents an up close and personal look at Bob Dylan in this evening that celebrates the publication of Clinton Heylin’s new book JUDAS! From Forest Hills to the Free Trade Hall, which documents the incredible music Dylan and his backing group, the Hawks (soon to become known as the Band), made on stage and on record during 1965 and 1966.

To coincide with the publication of this definitive account of the world tour, rock historian and Dylan authority Clinton Heylin, and the soundman responsible for the astonishing live recordings of the 1966 shows, Richard Alderson, co-curate an evening of audio-video verité rekindling the spirit of ’66 and screening rare clips from the tour.

In JUDAS!, Heylin combines fast-paced narrative with forensic detective work to lift the lid on the 1966 sold-out tour to end all tours. Bob Dylan and the Hawks found themselves at the epicenter of a storm of controversy. Their response? To unleash a ferocious cataract of sound from Forest Hills to Melbourne to the Manchester Free Trade Hall. For the first time, Heylin captures the full story as told by participants, eyewitnesses, and contemporary reports.

Heylin’s books include Bob Dylan: Behind the Shades, Revolution in the Air: The Songs of Bob Dylan 1957–1973, Still on the Road: The Songs of Bob Dylan 1974–2006, Bob Dylan: The Recording Sessions 1960–1994, Anarchy in the Year Zero: The Pistols, the Clash, and the Class of ’76, Bootleg: The Secret History of the Other Recording Industry, From the Velvets to the Voidoids: The Birth of American Punk Rock, and Babylon’s Burning: From Punk to Grunge, among many others.
