Áine Phillips is a performance artist and Head of Sculpture at Burren College of Art in the west of Ireland. Her work has been shown across five continents, in places such as Kyoto, Ljubljana, New York, Uganda and Brisbane. She has presented talks on her work at Tate Britain and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. She has recently published “Performance Art in Ireland: A History” (Live Art Development Agency and Intellect Books UK) and frequently publishes essays and criticism in art journals such as Performance Art Journal MIT Press New York. 

She will present a slide show on performance art in Ireland from the 1970’s to the present day, focusing on political artists responding to the ‘Troubles’ (the military and civil war in Northern Ireland in the 1980s – 1990s), feminist performance from the 1980s to the present day, the evolution  of Irish sound art and current live art that is often radical, socially engaged and collaborative.
