Howl! Happening is delighted to present a 2019 birthday celebration for Allen Ginsberg, the grandfather of Beatific free expression and the namesake of our gallery. Taking inspiration from Allen who was a lifelong spokesperson for peace and justice, we are not afraid to speak up and support artists and audiences by providing a forum to join in the creative process and make their voices heard.

Join us from 2pm for an afternoon of poetry, performances, film and festivities as we toast to another year of the legacy of Allen Ginsberg– and take a Howl! fortune cookie with you for your onward journey!

Alongside the poets and writers will be performances by downtown ensemble Bear 54, who formed under the energetic dome created by Arthur Russell and Allen Ginsberg as all members were his friends and collaborators in the 1980’s in New York. Founding members include Ernie Brooks bass and vocals,  Joyce Bowden vocals and acoustic guitar, Peter Zummo trombone, keyboard and vocals, and Billy Ficca drums.
