Bowery Poetry celebrates with a musical/poetry hybrid bringing the best in hip-hop, performance poetry, beat, and spoken word for an all-night celebration of the neighborhood and the poets who made it great.
Special guests throughout the night, with Ed Sanders, Hall Willner, Len Chandler, David Henderson, Steve Cannon, Steven Taylor and a presentation by CUNY’s “Lost and Found.” Plus — the Last Party.

4 PM: Hal Willner previews “Let Me Hang You.” William Burroughs as treated by Kong Khan under the producerial wizardy of Mr. Willner.

5 PM: A Conversation with Steve Cannon, Len Chandler, David Henderson, and Joe Johnson
A discussion about the role of African-Americans in the Beat movement and poets associated with Umbra, a collective of young black writers founded on the Lower East Side in 1962—revealing the struggle to establish a literature distinct from, and sometimes at odds with, the prevailing white literary establishment.

A presentation by editor Ammiel Alcalay and others involved in the Beat aspects of the renowned CUNY research/publication project, including: Claudia Moreno Parsons on  Amiri Baraka & Edward Dorn: Selections from the Collected Letters 1959-1960; Megan Paslawski on Michael Rumaker: Selected Letters; Alex Wermer-Colan on William S. Burroughs: The Travel Agency is on Fire; Oyku Tekten & William Camponovo on Gregory Corso: Naropa Lectures 1981 (parts I & II).
