SUMMARY:Dean Lance: Mourn The Dead\, Fight Like Hell For The Living
DESCRIPTION:Lance is a Brooklyn-born video and visual artist whose work has been broadcast on PBS and screened at film festivals\, universities\, and museums internationally including MoMA\, MoCA\, and the New Museum\, He earned his BFA at the School of Visual Arts in 1980 and incorporates his training in animation into his imagery\, often composing his first draft through the viewfinder of a Polaroid. \nAs a lifelong New Yorker\, his work captures and celebrates the passion\, enthusiasm\, and energy of his fellow activists and the quest for basic human rights—documenting and creating a first-hand record of events that mark pivotal moments that might otherwise be forgotten. His longtime colleague Penny Arcade describes him as having “drawn his way through the AIDS crisis.” A veteran member of ACT UP’s DIVA TV (as in those “damned interfering video activists”)\, his award-winning video\, A Hard Reign’s Gonna Fall (Best Music Video\, Atlanta Film and Video Festival\, 1991) has been shown throughout the United States and internationally.

SUMMARY:Guy Woodard: We the People
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Wednesday\, June 19\, 6–8 PM \n  \nI’ve done so much with so little for so long that now I believe I can do anything with nothing at all. —Guy Woodard \nShowcasing a refined technique born of necessity\, Howl! Happening is pleased to present Guy Woodard’s We the People\, an exhibition that illuminates one artist’s work and world\, building a case for social justice and a contemporary dialogue around mass incarceration. \nHowl! is pleased to present Woodard’s series of evocative ballpoint pen drawings that frame deeply moving illustrations of black life. Also included in the exhibition will be forgeries of documents that point to issues relevant to contemporary art and social history\, including Tamir Rice’s police academy diploma and the diploma of Trayvon Martin from Howard University. \nA former counterfeiter and forger\, Woodard’s 20-year “criminal” career ended with a seven-year forced hiatus in a federal facility. Having aspired to be an artist his entire life\, he viewed his time in prison as an opportunity to perfect his craft. His bubble burst when the Federal Bureau of Prisons officer in charge of the arts-and-crafts department informed Woodard he wasn’t allowed oil paints or turpentine. “You’re supposed to be an artist. Learn to paint with something else\,” the officer taunted. \nContemplating what he might use as a medium\, he noticed the tiny dots in an old\, grainy newspaper photograph. Inspired by the illustrators he saw in magazines growing up—among them Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish—he began to approach his drawings like oil paintings\, applying his dots of ink in layers to create depth and rhythm. He taught himself to “paint” with a 25-cent Bic pen. What began as an act of defiance has enabled the artist to fulfill his love for detail and definition as no other medium could. \nIllustrating an alternative metaphor of contemporary American life\, Woodard’s subjects do not inhabit Rockwell’s ideal world. Rather his “maximinalist” realist paintings reflect and represent contemporary black life\, activism\, and culture. We the People\, the piece which names the exhibition\, illustrates a zero-tolerance case in which the court upheld the arrest and booking of a 12-year-old girl for eating a French fry on the Washington\, D.C. subway system\, where consuming food is prohibited by law. \n“Howl’s vision is to use art and creativity as an entry point to create dialogue around issues of social importance. Prison is dehumanizing\, but people find ways to express freedom\, to connect to their humanity\,” says Jane Friedman\, executive director of Howl! Happening. \nA series of panel discussions and special events will delve into the prison industrial complex and the historical and contemporary conditions that create the necessity for prisons. Featured will be a panel on artmaking in prison with writer and Rutgers professor Nicole Fleetwood\, whose book Marking Time: Prison Art and Public Culture is scheduled for publication in February 2020. \n“Guy’s art is one example of what men and women inside prison can and do create every day\,” say Katherine Cheairs\, Howl’s director of education. \nWoodard will also lead an evening of artmaking as part of the free Vega Arts Workshop series on Wednesday\, July 10th from 7–9 PM. \n  \nAbout the Vega Arts Workshop Series \nAs part of its continuing commitment to the community\, Howl! Happening: An Arturo Vega Project presents the free Vega Arts Workshop Series\, an educational initiative designed to offer individuals access to the creative process\, and broaden opportunities to express themselves through the visual arts. Participants produce their own works of art through hands-on experiences with acclaimed artists working in varied disciplines. \nInspired by Arturo Vega’s legacy and spirit of generosity\, openness\, and forward thinking\, the Vega Arts Workshop Series speaks to Howl! Happening’s mission by recognizing that making connections between people and art generates new ideas and activates our community\, and that creative expression is a potent engine for change. For further information about the Vega Arts Workshop Series contact Katherine Cheairs\, director of education.

SUMMARY:Gay Sex in the 70s: A Film by Joseph Lovett
DESCRIPTION:Screening and Q&A \nSex had become the great equalizer. Young men of all financial strata and backgrounds met in New York to experience a freedom of sexual expression that hadn’t been known since ancient Rome. \nHowl! Happening and Some Serious Business are pleased to present the groundbreaking documentary film Gay Sex in the 70s. Directed by Joseph Lovett\, the film documents gay life in New York—from Greenwich Village to the Fire Island Pines—during the decade of liberation and sexual abandon following Stonewall and before the outbreak of AIDS. Gay men cruised the streets\, frequented gay bars\, and had loads and loads of sex. The film puts this outpouring of sexuality into perspective by looking at what gay life was like before 1969\, what set the stage for the explosion\, and how the political climate of the time influenced sexual expression. Lovett’s characters explore the experience that was ‘escaping to New York\,’ the reasons they left the cities they had spent their entire lives in\, and how things changed after the Sexual Revolution had begun. \nOnly 12 years after Stonewall\, AIDS brought this unprecedented era of sexual freedom to a close. The film combines archival footage and interviews with author and activist Larry Kramer\, photographer Tom Bianchi\, and others. The evening is introduced by Lovett with a Q&A following the screening. Howl! Happening is a member of the Stonewall 50 Consortium\, and the screening is part of the Stonewall 50th anniversary celebrations. \nAbout Joseph Lovett \nJoseph Lovett is an award-winning filmmaker who produced the first investigations on AIDS for ABC’s 20/20 and worked with many major networks. As an independent producer and director\, he has created various feature documentaries and over 35 hours of primetime specials. Lovett has been honored with the Peabody\, the AIDS Leadership\, the Christopher\, the Kitty Carlisle Hart\, and numerous other awards from advocacy organizations\, including an Emmy nomination. \nAbout Some Serious Business: The Artist Always Come First \nSome Serious Business incubates emergent expression in the arts\, germinates intrepid new works and ideas\, and presents diverse projects that celebrate audacity\, experimentation\, and social and cultural innovation. SSB supports hybrids and chimeras that traverse performance\, literature\, theater\, dance\, visual art\, moving image\, music\, architecture and design\, social practice\, and the intersection of art and social history.

SUMMARY:Life After Incarceration: The Plight of Building a Career
DESCRIPTION:Talk of the injustice of the criminal justice system is at an all-time high. But how much do we know about what happens once incarcerated individuals are released? \nRSA US and Howl! Happening is pleased to present this salon as an open conversation on the challenges of life after incarceration\, specifically as they relate to the obstacles preventing returning citizens from building a career. The discussion will center on returning citizens\, both as featured speakers and members of the audience. The salon will aim to create a better understanding of the challenges people have faced in building a career since their experience in prison.  \nOrganizations in attendance will be encouraged to reflect on shifts they can make in response to the testimonies of returning citizens\, who will voice their career ambitions. These organizations could possibly offer connections or career opportunities that address their needs. \nThis salon features Julio Medina\, founder and CEO of Exodus Transitional Community; Dominic Dupont\, star of the documentary Raised in the System; Coss Marte\, CEO and founder of Conbody—who after serving a 10-year prison sentence started his own fitness company—and Ashish Prashar\, FRSA\, who served time in London and then had a lengthy career in both British and American politics\, serving as press secretary to the Mayor of London. \n

SUMMARY:Linus Coraggio Ramifications
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception\, Thursday\, September 12 / 6–8 PM / Free \n“Coraggio found larger inspiration and notoriety as a founding member of the Rivington School. Coraggio and sculptors Ray Kelly and Robert Parker were most responsible for creating the bulwark of the sprawling steel-and-debris phoenix that arose from the rubble of a vacant lot on Rivington later added to by dozens of known and unknown artists (including Jean-Michel Basquiat)\, demarcating a kind of “temporary autonomous zone” that became the locus of an alternative Lower East Side culture\, which thrived into the mid-nineties. ”\n– Michael Carter\, from the catalog for Linus Coraggio’s Ramifications \nHowl! Happening: An Arturo Vega Project is pleased to present Linus Coraggio’s Ramifications\, a one-man show of sculpture\, painting\, and mixed media opening Thursday\, September 12\, 2019 from 6–8 PM. The exhibition runs through October 10\, with a special closing event on October 12. \nHowl! mounts its most ambitious installation to date. Linus Coraggio is a central figure in downtown New York’s early period of explosive art experimentation and cross-pollination of cultural ideas. Street artist and New York City native\, Coraggio is best known for his abstract metal sculpture. An ardent proponent of recycling\, he uses materials that can be found in vacant lots or building sites across Lower Manhattan and the city’s outer boroughs. This use of found materials is an essential component of his process. Coraggio’s richly graphic\, welded street constructions provided a 3-D counterpoint to the 2-D graffiti street art by contemporaries Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat\, as well as the masters of New York subway graffiti. \nThe current exhibition surveys Coraggio’s entire body of work\, including paintings in expressionist and graffiti style\, mobiles\, furniture\, neon\, sculpture\, mixed-media collage\, and both classic and 3-D graffiti. The exhibition will also include recent collaborations with well-known downtown artists\, and an installation of his painted and “sculpturalized” car that has become a recognized cultural fixture on the streets of New York City over the last 10 years. \nCoraggio’s “outstallations”—welded constructions emblazoned with sociopolitical graffiti bolted to signposts—and his pioneering street sculpture utilizing all manner of detritus have branded his work with a gritty\, refined aesthetic and style. His abstract sculpture is inspired by the canon of 20th century masters David Smith\, Beverly Pepper\, Richard Hunt\, Issac Witkin\, Mark di Suvero\, Alexander Calder\, and his own favorite American iconoclast\, Simon Rodia—the visionary creator of Watts Towers. \nCoraggio is a founder of the Rivington School sculptors group. He welded a massive post-apocalyptic sculpture garden of rusted metal that was a landmark at Forsyth and Rivington Streets in New York’s Lower East Side. Coraggio was also the architect of the Gas Station\, a performance space\, after-hours club\, and sculpture garden that sat on Second Street and Avenue B well into the 90s. These seminal downtown art spaces were the vanguard of wild autonomous art activism in the face of rapid gentrification. \nThe son of avant-garde composer Henry Brant\, with whom he often collaborated\, Coraggio grew up accompanying his mother Pat on her trips across the Rust Belt as she photographed abandoned industrial sites for her Village Voice column. This experience informed his later choice of “used” metal as his medium when he discovered welding at Purchase College. \nCoraggio has been included in several important books\, catalogs\, films\, and shows about street art and the downtown 80s and 90s art scene. Internationally\, he has completed sponsored large-scale public art in Helsinki\, Rotterdam\, Linz\, and Nagoya and Osaka\, Japan.

SUMMARY:Re-visions by Marcia Resnick | Book Launch and Signing
DESCRIPTION:Re-visions by Marcia Resnick \nBook Launch and Signing \n7–9pm / Free \nIn 1975\, while driving her car in Manhattan\, Marcia Resnick became embroiled in a car accident\, and her entire life flashed before her. When she awoke in the hospital\, she began to think about all of the events which led to her being there. She began to write ideas and draw pictures considering her life thus far\, in preparation for creating a new book. In 1978\, her poignant and ironic autobiographical book of staged photographs about female adolescence\, Re-visions\, was first published by The Coach House Press in Toronto. Andy Warhol called it “Bad\,” and according to Allen Ginsberg it was “Sharp…for a girl.” Now\, 41 years later\, longtime friend Lydia Lunch pays homage to the second edition of Re-visions: “A sweet twist which whispers in mysterious tones predicting the delicious perversion of a budding adolescence.” \nSwiss art-book publisher Edition Patrick Frey will launch the republication of Re-visions. Marcia will be signing copies of her book. The event is open and free to the public.  \nAbout Marcia Resnick \nMarcia Resnick was born in Brooklyn\, NY\, and first exhibited her art at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum when she was 5 years old. She is an alumnus of NYU\, Cooper Union\, and California Institute of the Arts. Resnick returned to New York where she taught photography by day and frequented the Mudd Club and CBGB at night\, encountering and photographing the denizens of the downtown arts and music scene. She self-published artist’s books See\, Landscape\, and Tahitian Eve in 1975. Her humor column Resnick’s Believe-it-Or-Not\, consisting of a photograph and a paragraph\, was published in the Soho Weekly News from 1979-1982. In 2015\, Insight Editions published her book of portraits of iconic men\, Punks\, Poets & Provocateurs: New York City Bad Boys 1977-1982. Her photographs can be found in numerous books and periodicals\, are exhibited internationally\, and are in major private and museum collections.

SUMMARY:Linus Coraggio Explains It All
DESCRIPTION:Walkthrough of Ramifications with the Artist\nJoin us for an intimate moment with artist Linus Coraggio. A self-confessed “odd kid\,” Coraggio spent an entire summer creating a 36-inch tall pyramid made of 3\,000 toothpicks into a giant configuration. When finished\, He asked his mother what to call this object and she replied\, “sculpture.’’ The die was cast. \nThe son of avant-garde composer Henry Brant\, with whom he often collaborated\, Coraggio grew up accompanying his mother Pat on her trips across the Rust Belt as she photographed abandoned industrial sites for her Village Voice column. SUMMARY:Optimism\, Corruption & Apocalypse: A Panel Discussion with Catalog Contributors
DESCRIPTION:Linus Coraggio Ramifications \nIn this space\, dystopian/utopian dreams are quantum entangled: street aesthetics meet hip-hop graffiti meet 50s abstract expressionism and beatnik nonconformity. \n—Brad Melamed\, from his essay\, The Existential Weld. \nHowl! Happening presents a lively discussion with writers\, critics\, and commentators Anthony Haden-Guest\, Carlo McCormick\, Brad Melamed\, and Sur Rodney (Sur) about Coraggio’s work and the significance\, legacy\, and influence of street art on the Lower East Side and the culture at large. \nWhen the street-art phenom broke big in the early 80s\, art worldlings got a grip soon enough and Keith Haring\, Kenny Scharf\, and Jean-Michel Basquiat became the anointed ones. But in 2017\, Richard Hambleton\, the creator of that street presence\, Shadowman\, OD’d. And blew up. That\, and last year’s strong Rammellzee retrospective\, made it clear that the narrative of street art is in melt. \n—Anthony Haden-Guest\, from his essay\, Linus Coraggio: Onto the Streets \nCoraggio’s richly graphic\, welded street constructions provide a 3-D counterpoint to the 2-D graffiti street art by contemporaries Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat\, as well as the masters of New York subway graffiti. SUMMARY:John Pizza in Why's the Room Purple? 'Cause the Moon's Purple
DESCRIPTION:The Full Moon Show: A Tom Murrin/Alien Comic Invention \nJohn Pizza is a performer\, builder\, and drawer. He uses trash and thrift-store detritus scrounged in his Brooklyn neighborhood to tell stories and make his shows. He loves the macabre and the mushy sweet. His sculptures are performative\, and his performances involve sculptures—an object theatre of weird surprises. \nAbout Tom Murrin and the Full Moon Show \nPerformance is anything done with purpose and style—Tom Murrin \nHowl! Happening houses the collection of Tom Murrin. Tom\, aka the Alien Comic\, is known as the “Godfather of Performance Art.” Every full moon—without fail\, paid booking or not\, in all seasons and whatever the weather—he performed his Luna Macaroona Full Moon Show. When he had a club date that fell on the full moon\, he’d wrangle his friends to perform as guests—pushing the careers of such groundbreaking performers as David Cale\, David Sedaris\, Amy Sedaris\, Blue Man Group\, Ethyl Eichelberger\, Lisa Kron\, and many others. When he didn’t have a club date\, he performed on the street for passersby\, transforming the pedestrian atmosphere with his madness and magic. \nThe Full Moon Show is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement/Creative Learning\, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature\, and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. LMCC.net

SUMMARY:Tessa Hughes-Freeland: Passed and Present
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, October 17 / 6 PM / Free \nHowl! Happening: An Arturo Vega Project is pleased to present Passed and Present\, an exhibition and installation by Tessa Hughes-Freeland comprising a variety of cinematic elements. Known for her contributions to the Cinema of Transgression movement\, the exhibition includes single-channel and multiple projections\, an interactive kaleidoscope\, sculptural fans\, and a series of special screenings including the premiere of her recently completed Lost Movie/The Bug. \nConfrontational\, transgressive\, provocative\, and poetic\, Hughes-Freeland approaches filmmaking from a multiplicity of styles. Her work includes underground films\, classic narrative\, expanded cinematic performances\, experimental “automatic” films assembled entirely from found footage\, and delicate fans made from film of all gauges.  \nIn live-action films\, as well as collaged films from found footage\, Hughes-Freeland taps into the sophisticated emotional filters we erect to deal with uncomfortable feelings. Images crash into one another in disorienting ways. Drawing upon the mind-altering potential of spontaneous transformation and the power of myth\, her films are essentially “psychedelic”—conjuring ineffable experiences beyond the commonplace. \n“My films are ritualistic and atavistic—inspired by dreams\, visions\, and imagination. Sometimes the nucleus of an idea for a film starts with an object. The original idea for Hireath came from the top of the Christmas cake\, which my mother made every year\,” the artist says. \nHiraeth\, a Welsh concept expressing a deep longing for home\, is based on memory and loss. Drawing loosely on paganism and the mythology of female archetypes as seers\, the film evokes an arc of Hughes-Freeland’s experience as a woman over time.  \nOther Wise\, a large multiple projection\, extends the sentiment of loss present in Hiraeth. Working directly with wide-ranging sources—film made from Letraset\, handmade slides\, and original ethereal imagery—the work includes a poetic secret message to the departed based on imagery from a dream. The naturally transmutable iconography and romantic framework of the piece create a visual poem expressing the metaphysical poles of connection and otherness\, and the beauty of transformation. The projection screen is formally linked to the film fans by its concertina-like shape.  \nIn turn\, the kaleidoscope uses Other Wise to create further fragmentation within a circular form. A primitive cinematic device devoid of technology\, it is fashioned from a camera tripod and case. Interactive and fun\, this piece invites the viewer to see the world and the exhibition in a magical state.  \n“Found footage is the basis of much of my films. Similarly\, a found object can inspire an entire film. I see these as signifiers or emotional triggers that become a part of my own symbolic language. The fans consist of found film in all gauges—home movies; Hollywood studio films; pornographic films; or random footage found in thrift stores\, yard sales\, or just lying on the street\,” Hughes-Freeland explains.  \nAs part of the public programs in conjunction with the show\, Howl! will screen a selection of Hughes-Freeland’s films including Baby Doll (1981)\, a docu-portrait of go-go dancers\, and Nymphomania (1994)\, a brutal and a comedic critique of the dialectic of male/female sexuality.  \n  \nABOUT TESSA HUGHES-FREELAND \nTessa Hughes-Freeland has been making films since the 1980s and is considered a member of the Cinema of Transgression movement. Her films have been screened internationally in museums\, galleries\, and seedy bars\, including MoMA\, MOCA\, Whitney Museum of American Art\, New Museum\, and KW Institute for Contemporary Art. Currently\, five of her films are featured in an exhibition touring museums throughout Asia\, including Seoul\, South Korea. She has been a juror for numerous festivals and programmed extensively\, most recently for the Club 57: Film\, Performance\, and Art in the East Village\, 1978-1983 exhibition at MoMA\, and for Punk Lust: Raw Provocation 1971-85 at the Museum of Sex.  Hughes-Freeland was president of the board of directors of the New York-based Film–Makers‘ Cooperative for several years. \nImage: Mirror Mirror: Daylight Cinema\, 2017\, Tessa Hughes-Freeland.

SUMMARY:98 Bowery\, 1969-89: View from the Top Floor
DESCRIPTION:Marc H Miller Website Relaunch and Talk \nArtist and curator Marc H Miller talks about his life in downtown New York City and unveils an updated version of his website 98 Bowery\, 1969-89\, a picture memoir of the 20 years he lived in a Bowery loft observing and participating in the genre-changing transformations taking place in art and music. Miller’s presentation at Howl! Happening marks the recent revamping of the 98 Bowery website\, first launched 10 years ago. \nDrawing from the site’s archive of photos and video clips\, Miller recounts stories about Harry’s Bar and CBGB; the seminal 1978 Punk Art show; collaborative work with Bettie Ringma\, Curt Hoppe\, Alan Moore\, and Paul Tschinkel—all residents at 98 Bowery; his year in Amsterdam; and the varied roles he played in the East Village art scene and in the rise of hip-hop culture in the 1980s. The 98 Bowery website has been visited by more than 600\,000 people. \nMiller is well known as the curator of the Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk exhibition at the Queens Museum (2016)\, and for his video interview with Jean-Michel Basquiat in Paul Tschinkel’s Art/new york series. His online store Gallery 98 has reanimated vintage art ephemera. \nMiller is a scholar (Ph.D.\, Institute of Fine Arts\, NYC) and a counterculture provocateur (his interactive art series Draw a Penis and Vagina is 98 Bowery’s most popular page). Underlying it all is his understanding of the roots of contemporary culture in the 1970s and 80s\, and the direct link between the interactive strategies that emerged in art then and the current world of selfies and reality television. \nAbout Marc H Miller\nMarc H Miller arrived in New York from California in 1968 to pursue a Ph.D. in art history at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts (1979). Miller is an artist\, curator\, writer\, publisher\, and educator. His multifaceted career is unified by an interest in pictorial images and their inherent ability to tell stories. \nFrom 1981-85\, he worked with Paul Tschinkel on ART/new york\, an educational videotape series. He was a columnist for the East Village Eye (1983-85)\, and the co-editor of ABC No Rio Dinero: The Story of a Lower East Side Art Gallery (1985). In 2001 he founded Ephemera Press\, which published illustrated maps and walking tour guides\, including one of the East Village. \nMiller was a curator at the Queens Museum from 1985 to 1991\, and returned as guest curator for Hey Ho Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk (2016). As an artist in collaboration with Bettie Ringma and Curt Hoppe\, he has exhibited at OK Harris Gallery (1974)\, Art Basel (1980)\, the New Museum (2011)\, and Stigter Van Doesberg Gallery in Amsterdam (2018). Miller is the creator of the website 98 Bowery (2009) and its related online store Gallery 98 (2015). He is on the board of advisors for Howl! Happening. \n“Curator Marc H Miller: Pulling the Punk Pieces Together\,” Please Kill Me\, 9/25/19

SUMMARY:Paul Tschinkel’s ART/new york No. 72: CURT HOPPE Downtown Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Screening and Panel Discussion \nThis edition of ART/new york showcases Curt Hoppe and explores his work as photographer\, realist painter\, and “Charles Bukowski of the downtown art world”—penetrating layers of cultural history to reveal the changing faces of the neighborhood. Both the filmmaker and the artist have longtime connections based on their residence at 98 Bowery\, where Hoppe has lived for 43 years. \nA panel discussion follows with painter Jane Dickson\, filmmaker Charlie Ahearn\, and sculptor John Ahearn—all of whom have been subjects for Curt’s paintings and photographs. Hoppe was recently the subject of double exhibitions at Howl! Happening and Frank Bernarducci Gallery. In this program\, we see the opening at the Bernarducci Gallery and interviews conducted by artist Brett De Palma\, as well as lengthy conversations with Hoppe and De Palma in their studios. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Paul Tschinkel’s ART/new york series\, begun in 1979. \nHoppe\, a realist painter and photographer\, has enjoyed a successful 40-year career driven by meaningful relationships with pioneering downtown creators. Hoppe pays tribute to the core group of artists who offered him friendship and direction when he first arrived in the city in the mid 70s\, and who continue to inspire and define him today both as artist and member of a vibrant and enduring creative community. \nView the Trailer \nPaul Tschinkel is the producer and director of the ART/new york video series. A painter and video artist\, he is a graduate of the M.F.A. program at Yale University. His work has been shown widely in Europe\, Japan\, and the U.S.\, at prominent institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art\, MoMA\, and the National Gallery of Art. Over the years\, Tschinkel’s unique work has become a valuable historical resource on contemporary art and artists. Begun in 1979\, the ART/new york series has covered artists such as Alice Neel\, Chuck Close\, Jeff Koons\, and many more. Tschinkel also produced and recorded many of the punk and new wave bands of the late 70s\, and 80s. \nAbout Curt Hoppe
