SUMMARY:The Full Moon Show The Witch's Moon
DESCRIPTION:With co-hosts Tony Stinkmetal and Salley May\nA Tom Murrin/Alien Comic Invention \nAre you tired of every omnipotent cry-baby claiming to be the focus of a witch hunt? So are we! This Full Moon Show celebrates The Witch’s Moon. And his time\, the Witches will be doing the hunting. \nSalley May and Tony Stinkmetal take back the night—or more precisely\, the late afternoon—and come out swinging the Malleus Maleficarum (or medieval Witch’s Hammer) as the Full Moon Crew “un-burns” the entwined histories of witchcraft and counter-culture\, and mixes up a heady brew of historical irony\, hysterical insecurity\, and politically induced pyromania. \nMoon Goddess Luna Macaroona will be playing the role of Circe\, turning those who offend her into wild beasts. Instead of burning witches she lays waste to corrupt marketers of eternal youth\, sexism\, and the slavish followers of the social media who feed the beast. (No\, not that Beast. We mean the power structure.) \nThis Black Sabbath will include a visit from Alice Klugherz\, director of the Natural Selection performance coven to lift the current veil of mediocrity from our culture. In Haik Dreams Alice and her den of crones stir the cauldron of ageism with fierce\, funny vignettes about becoming—and being—an older woman. Unleashed from the stage and roaming freely on First Street anything might happen. Laid bare\, supercharged\, nothing to prove—these women will not go quietly! \nSo set your broomstick to stun  and your black cat to cruise-control! Suggested attire: pointy hats\, PVC chaps\, proto-crone-glam\, Lagerfeld anything\, thistle everything\, widow’s peaks with silver streaks\, spirit animals\, familiars\, Barbara Steele realness\, cobweb shawls\, Druid hoodies\, Joan of Arc haircuts. \n  \nAbout Tom Murrin and the Full Moon Show \nHowl! Happening houses the archives of Tom Murrin. Murrin\, aka the Alien Comic\, is known as the Godfather of Performance Art. Every full moon\, Tom performed the Full Moon Show in honor of his moon goddess\, Luna Macaroona. When he had a club date that fell on the full moon\, he’d wrangle his friends to perform as his guests—pushing the careers of such groundbreaking performers as David Cale\, David Sedaris\, Amy Sedaris\, Blue Man Group\, Ethyl Eichelberger\, Lisa Kron and many others. If not\, he performed on the street for passersby\, transforming the pedestrian atmosphere with his madness and magic. Howl! Happening’s monthly series continues that tradition\, with performances in the gallery and surprise pop up performances on the street. \nAbout The Tom Murrin Archive \nHowl! Happening is the repository of the Tom Murrin Archive comprising masks\, costumes\, scripts\, correspondence\, photographs\, and tapes of performances going back to the early 70s. Murrin (February 8\, 1939 – March 12\, 2012) also known as The Alien Comic and Jack Bump\, was a performance pioneer whose life and work inspired both artists and audiences for over 40 years. He was a member of the first generation of La MaMa playwrights. Tom wrote four plays performed through La MaMa and produced by John Vacarro’s Play-House of the Ridiculous\, including the offbeat hit\, Cock Strong\, which toured with Ellen Stewart’s La MaMa Troupe to Paris\, Amsterdam and Brussels. \nUnder the guidance of rock manager Jane Friedman\, Tom began to perform under the name Alien Comic\, opening for acclaimed punk bands in rock clubs such as CBGBs and Max’s Kansas City. As Alien Comic he performed in such venues as The Pyramid\, 8BC\, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut\, Performance Space 122\, Dixon Place\, La MaMa\, and more. Since the mid 80s\, he’s created\, performed\, and curated a series of variety nights at Performance Space 122\, and La Mama Experimental Theatre Club and Dixon Place\, called The Full Moon Show. His plays Sport-Fuckers and Butt-Crack Bingo were produced at Theater for the New City and La MaMa and directed by David Levine. Tom was the first performance artist to appear on stage at the original Dixon Place location at 37 East First Street in 1986.

SUMMARY:No More Black Targets
DESCRIPTION:Unconscious bias can be deadly\, and contributes to one of the biggest violence issues in America. We have to do something about it. Howl! Happening is pleased to introduce No More Black Targets. \nNoMoreBlackTargets (NMBT) is a collective of artists—diverse in backgrounds\, ethnicities and nationalities—working in paint\, digital media\, patternmaking and also physical installations to bring new artwork to life. The collective paints on the actual live black silhouette paper targets used in shooting ranges\, an artistic approach that raises awareness while protesting the senseless and unlawful “black and Brown” shootings in past and recent years here in America. \nThis art project seeks to eliminate the use of the most popular target for shooters to learn to use their firearm: a menacing black silhouette. In shooting ranges\, in permitting and instruction environments\, anywhere someone is learning to use a firearm.\nTo raise awareness\, the targets will be replaced and painted over with artistic interpretations that turn the menacing black silhouettes into beautiful\, colorful and optimistic art. \nThe NMBT collective stands for “More paint. Less hate.”\nPrior to the February 2017 launching\, NMBT has gotten great development and awesome creative direction from Laurent Leccia and the team at FRED FARID. \nNMBT also partnered with the NYSEC – the New York Society of Ethical Culture. \nFeatured NoMoreBlackTargets Collective artist are: \nCYPHA\nSHAYNA KULIK\nREX CHOUK\nHEKTAD\nSACSIX\nPETER MOULTHROP\nJULIEN CALOT\nDIZMOLOGY\nBERNADETTE DELANY\nALICE MIZRACHI\nZIMER\nJENNA KRYPELL\nDENTON\nCHINON MARIA\nANDREA COOK\nUTA BRAUSER\nGIL GOREN\nAVISUAL BLISS\nJCBKNYC\nBILLIKID\nCONSUMERART\nYESONE\nBROLGA\nFKDL\nICONIC & 2CENTS\nSINES\nB.D. SUMMARY:Holy! Holy! Holy! Allen Ginsberg's Birthday Party
DESCRIPTION:He’s our mascot\, our poet\, our inspiration! We can never stop celebrating the gifts he gave us and the neighborhood. An outspoken genius at the service of love and social justice\, Howl! dances to his joyful tune. \nJoin Howl Happening and the Allen Ginsberg Estate to celebrate the poet-philosopher’s 91st birthday. The party also celebrates the re-release of Allen Ginsberg’s seminal recording of Songs of Innocence and Experience\, in which he set to music and sang the poems of William Blake. No less than the legendary Lester Bangs wrote in Rolling Stone of the album originally released in 1970: “like a labor of love\, a salute from a young visionary to an ancient sage\, executed with delicacy and charm in a vocal style reminiscent of an Anglo-American muezzin.” \n2:00PM – Screening of A Poet on The Lower East Side \n4:00PM – An Afternoon of Readings and Performances hosted by Bob Rosenthal with Basil King\, David Henderson\,  Bob Holman and Ed Sanders \n6.00PM – Group Reading of Howl and a toast to Allen \n6:30PM – Live Music by Bear 54 \n7.30PM – Live Music by Ed Sanders \n8:30PM – Songs of Innocence and Experience\, with Steven Taylor\, Ernie Brooks and Ed Sanders

Riding on a wave\, each of us gravitating toward the unknown\, disregarding boundaries that were no longer needed. This place where movement blends with humor\, sound paints the landscape and visuals twist the mind into… surprise! \nOvercome by the political landscape\, here we are with our feelings. FUCKING FEELINGS (!) – yell and scream – catharsis – emotional outbursts – dance party – sweat – bodies close together – humor – collaborations with other artists/people who aren’t artists (civilians) – widen your dirty sphere – dance – music – visual art – all in one space – productive political dialogues – conversation – think tank – make fun – make serious – make art – surprise(!) \nHow can we surprise one another with the unexpected alliances that are made by cross-pollinating our communities and revolutionizing the intended uses of the venues and institutions we’re used to? It’s time to deframe or reframe the suddenly static definitions of what performance\, art\, and creative expression can be. Does it need the validation of the institution that it is assigned or can it be validated by the diverse communities that support and create it? surprise/!\, the “high” and the “low” are not so different from one another. \nLet’s overcome the divisiveness of current politics and culture and pay homage to our roots\, subverting boundaries through showing up and coming together. surprise. It’s a festival duh\, we’re doing this. \nAs we create the structure for this festival\, we cannot ignore the fact that we have no idea what will occur under this new administration in the next few months. In order to stay ready\, we are creating designated open space for meetings\, discussions or other needed formats to address what we can’t plan for – or even imagine. Throughout the course of surprise! surprise(!) surprise/! surprise\, HOWL! Happening acts as the hub for the Movement Research Festival Spring 2017 for this very purpose. We want to invite people from different communities to come together in a shared space both in formal and informal gatherings. It is also our hope that you will also get to know these incredible venues and spaces that are doing great work for their neighborhood and artistic communities. A gallery\, performance space\, and archive\, HOWL! SUMMARY:Zhe Zhe Season Two Premiere
DESCRIPTION:THE SURREAL SATIRICAL CULT WEB SERIES IS BACK\nThe best show you’ve never seen is back for a second season. Zhe Zhe is a hilarious satirical web series about the glamorous misadventures of three fame-famished posers in a post-reality New York. Created by stars Ruby McCollister \, Leah Hennessey \, Emily Allan and director E.J. O’Hara \, Zhe Zhe offers an unflinching look at the dystopia that has become our reality. Filled to the brim with music\, magick and mayhem\, Zhe Zhe goes where no other web series has dared to go before. \nThe first season of Zhe Zhe foresaw 2017: the rise of Donald Trump’s army of clones\, the gender revolution and its discontents\, the mainstreaming of wing-nut conspiracy culture and the commodification of political protest. \nSeason Two picks up right where Season One left off: Zhe Zhe’s lead singer Mona DeLiza (Ruby McCollister) mourns her maybe murdered comedy mogul boyfriend\, while prime suspect Chewie Swindleburne (Emily Allan)\, blond celebutante turned super-villain\, isolates in her penthouse lair in a cloud of cannabinated depression. Meanwhile\, Zhe Zhe’s other half\, androgyne narcissist Jean D’Arc (Leah Hennessey)\, longs for expedited immortality as a prog rock god. \nCinephiles and Snapchat addicts alike will delight in Zhe Zhe ’s DIY couture. Think Absolutely Fabulous meets The Cremaster Cycle . Like if Camille Paglia and Susan Sontag were on Celebrity Death Match . Like if Girls went to EGS. Ryan Trecartin does The Secret Garden . \n\n\n\n\n“On the heels of the absurdist success of Broad City\, Zhe Zhe offers something that the former cannot: a far more unabashed alternate reality that foretells the imminent doom of New York as a place for artists. As though they bottled some camp from The Mighty Boosh …the aesthetic of Zhe Zhe\, named for the two-girl band it stars\, is surrealist DIY at its finest – with plenty of wigs\, to boot” -Culled Culture \n\n\n\n\nEpisode 1\, “Back From The Dead”\, will premiere on May 15 on youtube. \nCLICK HERE FOR TRAILER \nCLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON ZHE ZHE \nEpisode 1\, “Back From The Dead”\, will premiere on May 15 on youtube.

\nPhoto copyright Eric McNatt 2016

SUMMARY:Ori Carino and Benjamin Armas Voided
DESCRIPTION:So you should view this fleeting world —\nA star at dawn\, a bubble in a stream\,\nA flash of lightning in a summer cloud\,\nA flickering lamp\, a phantom\, and a dream.\n                        —Diamond Cutter Sutra (500 BC) \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, April 29\, 6 PM. \nTapping into a new generation of artists who grew up in the East Village and who are steeped in its history and culture\, Howl! Happening is pleased to present Voided by Ori Carino and Benjamin Armas. Voided includes Carino’s protest paintings series as well as several collaborative sculptures by Armas and Carino. The exhibition runs through May 27\, 2017. \nCarino was born in 1982 in a loft and functioning art gallery on Houston Street in Manhattan and raised among several pivotal artists of the 80s Outsider Art movement. Collectively\, this exhibition intersects downtown artistic lineages from the 50s to the present and demonstrates the continuing social critique that has engaged generations of artists in the Lower East Side. \nCarino’s paintings feature portraits of a procession of activist heroes who left their mark on East Village history. Densely packed with movement and storytelling\, the series includes five large panels\, each 48 x 72 inches. Meticulously painted like Tibetan thangkas\, these archetypes of the forward thinking and progressive individuals who went against the grain are rendered amid canvases crowded with a hyperreal and fantastical array of pop culture symbols and objects from the natural world. Like protector spirits\, they signify the wild things\, the change\, and the altruism of the individuals and groups pushing us forward to a better understanding of who we are and how we intersect with the world today. \nBuilding sculptures with materials recovered from local tenement demolitions since 2006\, Armas and Carino both grew up in the neighborhood at a time when it was undergoing rapid gentrification. Treating these works as “performance\,” the artists intentionally change them by a process of ceremonial burning and dilapidation. “In this\, we relate to buildings as metaphors for the physical\, mental\, and social body; racing towards an inevitable end\, yet endowed with unlimited potential for catalyzing positive change\,” says Armas. \nAlso included in the show is a large painting with a motorized brush that drags paint in a circle essentially “voiding” its imagery\, a performance occurring daily that has Carino repeatedly building up a brick wall only to tear it down\, a special multiple made for the show by Armas and Carino\, panel discussions\, and a new work by composer Jessie Montgomery produced in conjunction with Carino specially for the Voided exhibition. \n“By losing what once was\, we gain the opportunity to discard preconceived notions\, affirm our agency\, and ‘represent’ the change we would like to manifest\,” says Carino.

SUMMARY:Paul Tschinkel Alan Vega: An Artist’s Story
DESCRIPTION:In 1979\, filmmaker/artist Paul Tschinkel videotaped one of Suicide’s earliest performances at Max’s Kansas City in New York. The film starts with a thrilling performance of Ghost Rider and concludes with Vega performing at CBGB in 1983. \nIn 2004\, Alan spoke to Tschinkel frankly and movingly about his roots and life as an artist and performer. The film reveals Alan’s story as he tells it—his early interest in art and studies with such luminaries as Burgoyne Diller and Ad Reinhardt at Brooklyn College\, and his eventual contact with Martin Rev and their journey to gut-wrenching musical performances as electropunk duo Suicide. \nConceived in the early 70s by Vega and Rev\, the band was initially associated with the avant-punk movement of the New York music scene that spawned such groups as Blondie\, The Velvet Underground\, the Ramones\, the New York Dolls\, the Heartbreakers\, and many others. They quickly became a phenomenom—unclassifiable and against the grain of the increasingly “pop” sensibility of punk. Suicide’s hypnotic\, pulsing synth and cheap drum machine sound\, combined with Vega’s eerie\, echoing vocals in primal rockabilly style\, captured the feeling of a crumbling city…the ominous looks…the sound of the microphone slamming against the face…. \nInitially trashed by the music press\, their confrontational live performances are the stuff of legend. Recognized for unique and revolutionary style\, the album Suicide (1977) was recently named by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 best albums of all times.

SUMMARY:Dan Cameron: Sexo\, Drogas y Rock ‘n’ Roll
DESCRIPTION:Dan Cameron \nLower East Side curator and critic Dan Cameron\, who organized the exhibition When Jackie Met Ethyl for Howl! Happening in May 2016\, and wrote texts for both our Arturo Vega and Pyramid Lounge publications\, returns to give a talk on a part of Vega’s life and career that until now has been left unexplored: his years as a budding actor and artist in Mexico City. Although no physical artwork by Vega remains from this period\, Cameron has spoken to his friends and acquaintances from that time\, and drawn heavily on the research of contemporary Mexican curators to describe a cultural context in which visual artists were art directing rock bands\, avant-garde filmmakers made TV shows on rock and roll\, and Mexican youth culture seemed as fixated on sex and drugs as its northern neighbor. Special focus is made on the artist Pedro Friedeberg\, whose work and lifestyle had a powerful impact on the young Arturo\, and the disastrous Avándaro rock festival in 1971\, repercussions from which would literally drive the growing Mexican live concert scene underground\, and many of its more ambitious young creative minds into exile.

SUMMARY:The Full Moon Show With MC Extraordinaire Paul Alexander
DESCRIPTION:A Tom Murrin/Alien Comic Invention\nEvery Month on the Full Moon\nMC Extraordinaire Paul Alexander uses his mic as a divining rod to get to the bottom of  . . . all this. From whirling dervishes to house parties\, big answers have often been found on the dance floor. \nTo celebrate April’s Dancing Moon\, MC Alexander will be laying down the law at Howl! International nightclub royalty\, Alexander has been dubbed Voice Of The Night. \nAs vocalist with The Ones\, and an MC at the legendary Tuesday evening extravaganza\, Jackie 60\, Paul honed his talents. He is currently casting his new Musical Trinket’s (a fairy tale set in a 20th century meat-packing district) at the Gene Frankel Theater. \nHowl!’s bi-coastal Full Moon Show curators and co-hosts Salley May and Tony Stinkmetal perform a long-distance tango via Skype as Salley brings the party to L.A. See you on the dance floor—in this case\, the sidewalk outside Howl! Happening—and let the firm hand of MC Paul Alexander guide you to express your fear and rage and hope and love. \nGet to work\, children! \nAbout Tom Murrin and the Full Moon Show \nHowl! \nImage: P. Alexander

SUMMARY:Arleen Schloss FORGET ABOUT THAT SWEET FUCK BABY
DESCRIPTION:Film/Video Screening\, Panel Discussion\, T-shirt Benefit\nThis event is cash only \nSome Serious Business and Howl! Happening are pleased to present a tribute to the work of Arleen Schloss\, an influential figure in the downtown New York art\, video\, performance art and music scenes. FORGET ABOUT THAT SWEET FUCK BABY is an evening of film screenings and discussion with director/producer Roberta Friedman\, educator and independent filmmaker Stuart Ginsberg\, Whitney Museum curator Christiane Paul\, and archivist Sur Rodney (Sur). \nSchloss gained attention in the 70s as a critically acclaimed performance artist and has gone on to create groundbreaking work in a variety of mediums including film\, video\, sound poetry\, new music\, composing\, books\, and mail art. She co-founded A’s—an interdisciplinary loft space that was a hub for music\, exhibitions\, performance art\, films and videos. A hotbed of experimentation\, A’s featured works from Eric Bogosian\, Glenn Branca\, Jean-Michel Basquiat\, John Zorn\, Elliott Sharp\, Richard Hambleton\, Liquid Liquid\, Carolee Schneemann\, The Coachmen\, Kim Gordon\, Phoebe Legere\, Mania D\, Thurston Moore\, Shirin Neshat\, Lee Ranaldo\, Sur Rodney (Sur)\, Alan Vega and Ai Weiwei. \nShifting from one genre to another\, she has created a finely interwoven body of work. Always on the cutting edge\, Schloss fused new forms of creative expression and technology into her film\, video\, cyber art and performance work. \nSchloss’s performances possess a spirit described by Linda Burnham as “a contagious sense of wonder.” These presentations\, which could involve Schloss’s cyclical recitation of the alphabet\, live painting\, closed-circuit video\, and music all at once\, combine the anti-art whimsy of Fluxus\, scientific exploration\, Cageian indeterminacy\, and a site-specific empathy that makes every act unique.\n—New Museum\, Schloss film screening\, in conjunction with Come Closer: Art Around the Bowery\, 1969–1989 \nIn her honor\, SSB will reproduce a limited number of FORGET ABOUT THAT SWEET FUCK t-shirts from How She Sees It by Her (1981) as seen in Toyo Tsuchiya’s photo of Arleen. Tees for men and women will be available at the gallery\, or bring your own shirt and we’ll silkscreen it for you then and there for $25 a pop. All proceeds the evening of the event go to benefit Arleen. The evening is co-curated by Stuart Ginsberg\, and SSB directors Susan Martin and Quintan Ana Wikswo. \nFilm/Video Screening\nHow She Sees It by Her\, 1981 (18 minutes)\nThe title of this film is derived from the story HOW SHE SEES IT BY HER\, a 58-page written journal of personal observations scanning life and survival in New York City in the early 80s. Originating as a piece of sound poetry and later a public performance\, Arleen mixed her voice and personal observations with footage from the time period. \nGlenn Branca Symphony #4 (Physics)\, 1984 (11 minutes)\nA docu-collage in sound and music capturing the godfather of classical noise throughout a multi-city European tour in 1983. Featuring Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth\, Barbara Ess\, Arleen Schloss\, Margaret De Wys\, Stephan Wischerth\, Amanda Linn\, and others\, Branca explains his harmonics over vintage shots of his high-energy conducting style. \n Performance on the subway to combat crime in New York City\, 1979 (12 minutes)\nIn response to the spike in subway violence in 1979\, Arleen Schloss executed a performance art workshop/social experiment to combat crime. Beginning at the Grand Street subway stop in New York\, Schloss and her collaborators sang\, danced\, and performed along the F train to make the subway safe\, encountering baffled commuters\, unsympathetic police\, and bemused spectators. \nSun Daze Away\, 1989 (9 minutes)\nUsing one of the first 8mm video cameras produced\, Schloss shoots a musical and collage-filled travelogue throughout America’s Southwest. Intercutting interviews from local townspeople\, landscapes and news footage\, Sun Daze Away has an experimental quality with bursts of color and sound. \nAbout the Panelists\nStuart Ginsberg\, Moderator\nRoberta Friedman\nChristiane Paul\nSur Rodney (Sur) \nAbout Arleen Schloss\nNew Museum interview\nNew Museum Super 8 and Hi8 Film screenings \nAbout Some Serious Business \nImage: Toyo Tsuchiya\, from No Se No series.

SUMMARY:Bobby Miller A Downtown State of Mind: NYC 1973-1983
DESCRIPTION:March 30 / 7 PM / Free\nAs I look back at the 70s and 80s\, I knew that everyone was on a high of inspiration\, creativity\, sex and passion. Life was music\, life was art\, and life was fashion from your soul. It was never NO. It was let’s GO! —Joey Arias \nBobby Miller narrates the behind the scenes stories captured in his book of photographs\, A Downtown State of Mind\, when New York City’s nightlife scene was at the height of its glory. His photographs capture the period in New York when punk and new wave exploded in the clubs and hipsters made their own extravagant statement through music\, fashion and art. Miller also reads from the Introduction of the book by beloved authoress\, editrix and female-dominant icon Terence Sellers. \nFrom the glitter of punk to new wave\, we rocked dizzily driven by dreams and drugs the last hurrah of a pre-AIDS\, pre-greed\, pre-911 generation. —Cherry Vanilla \nSubjects include John Waters\, Divine\, Cookie Mueller\, Lance Loud\, Salvador Dalí\, Amos Poe\, Anya Phillips\, Debbie Harry\, Richard Hell\, Legs McNeil\, Cherry Vanilla\, Robert Mapplethorpe\, and many more. \nMost people think going out every night is great fun and games\, but going out night after night with your camera and your conscience in tow is considerably more. Somehow Bobby Miller did have a good time and posing for him was always part of a night out. His photos collected here vibrate with those lovely wild nights. —Debbie Harry \nBobby Miller is a performance poet\, writer\, actor and photographer. He is the author of four books of poetry: Benestrific Blonde\, Mouth Of Jane\, Troubleblonde\, and Rigmarole. He has been published in magazines and periodicals including Verbal Abuse\, VICE\, UHF Magazine and The Village Voice. He is included in the 1995 American Book Award-winning Aloud: Voices From The Nuyorican Poets Café; Verses That Hurt: Pleasure And Pain from The POEMFONE Poets; and The Outlaw Bible Of American Poetry. Mr. Miller’s book\, Fabulous! A Photographic Diary of Studio 54 with 144 black and white photographs was published by St. Martin’s Press in September 1998. \nMore About Bobby Miller \n

SUMMARY:Empire Arturo Vega’s Art and Life with the Ramones
DESCRIPTION:A presentation by Sandra Schulman and Monte A. Melnick\nMarch 24 / 7 PM / Free\nIt’s our birthday and to celebrate\, Howl! Happening presents a retrospective by the artist who inspired the gallery and so many younger creators and seekers in the neighborhood: Arturo Vega. Concurrent with the exhibition\, curators\, critics\, and dear friends deepen understanding of his life and work\, including a penetrating look at the cultural and political climate in Mexico that nurtured the visual and conceptual framework played out in the studio paintings featured in Empire and his work with the Ramones. Empire runs through April 20\, 2017. A fully illustrated catalog with essays by Dan Cameron\, Jade Dellinger\, Anthony Haden-Guest\, Adam Lehrer\, and Carlo McCormick will be published. \nIn conjunction with the retrospective\, two of Arturo’s closest friends illuminate his life and work. Sandra Hale Schulman\, an arts writer\, curator and film producer\, will contextualize his fine art—speaking about the origins\, iconography\, and evolution of his work\, and his influences from Pop Art to The Pictures Generation. Melnick will be talking about his more than 20 years working with the Ramones\, and the range and relevance of Vega’s (“the fifth Ramone”) contributions to the band. \nSchulman co-founded two galleries in New York City in the 80s: Spiritual America (backed by Vega) and 303 Gallery. Her catalog on Spiritual America was released in the spring of 2015. She curated art shows for galleries in New York; Joshua Tree; Los Angeles; Washington\, D.C.; and Southampton. Through her company\, Slink Productions\, she produced a tribute CD and documentary on Native folk singer Peter La Farge. She released a music video featuring Floyd Westerman\, and John Densmore (of The Doors) and a documentary on Karen Dalton. She is currently an arts columnist for WPB Magazine\, writes for HamptonsArtHub.com and works as a consultant on art and film projects. Her work has appeared in Billboard\, Variety\, Rolling Stone\, Ocean Drive\, Country Music Magazine\, The New York Daily News\, News From Indian Country\, and Entertainment Weekly. Part Cherokee\, she has become a spokesperson for Native American causes on radio and television. \nMonte A. Melnick was tour manager for the Ramones for 20 years (1976-1996) and traveled extensively with the band as worldwide coordinator. Melnick is the author of the book On the Road with the Ramones\, which has been published in seven languages. He is currently 3D Theater & Audio Visual Supervisor for the New York Hall of Science\, featuring the largest collection of hands-on science exhibits in NYC. He was manager of the premier performing arts center Queens Theatre in the Park\, and a member of the rock group Thirty Days Out\, with albums on Reprise/Warner Brothers Records.
